Interview with PA & Marketing Specialist Nikki Brackett

Hey, everyone! Today I have something a bit different for you. I’ve written for nearly as long as I can remember, but now that I’m getting published, I’m seeing there’s a lot more to the business side of this than I may have realized. This got me to thinking, and so I reached out to the one and only Nikki Brackett. Full disclosure, I have not worked with her, but she seems awesome and she was willing to give me an interview and share some of her awesome knowledge with all of us! So, without further ado, I give you, Nikki Brackett! (And yes, this is a REAL interview with a REAL person. ha!)

  1. What drew you to marketing?

I was drawn to marketing because I love helping people. By helping people, I get to see them succeed and overcome things they never thought possible. When I started helping Authors I had a huge desire to want to help them succeed. I’ve loved reading since I was 4 years old and as I grew— reading was a vital part of my life. Authors take so much time to write the story that I wanted to be a part of that. By helping them promote and sale their book(s), I can do just that.

  1. What’s the number one mistake you see people make when trying to market themselves and make connections for their work?

The biggest mistake I think I see most is not pushing it hard enough. We will never have anything worth anything unless we work hard it. That’s been my motto since I was very young. Marketing is very time consuming and requires lots of patience and push. If you don’t have those— marketing wont succeed.

  1. What’s the number one question people ask you?

How do I do this so calmly?

  1. What are your favorite platforms for marketing?

Facebook is huge and if pushed hard enough can be a big asset. But I’ve started noticing Instagram brings some success too. Plus you can have posting away with lots of pictures on Instagram. 😉

  1. What are your two favorite hashtags for gaining attention?

It varies from Author to Author. But if you hashtag something related to book— it draws their attention. Example: Romantic Suspense #romance #suspense or something maybe from the book — if it’s a Cop/Detective Romantic Suspense — hashtag #detective #sexy or something related. Bringing keywords out in hashtags and teasers helps a lot with sales.

  1. What’s the most important thing you think people should know about marketing?

It’s vital to a career as an Author. If you don’t have it and invest in it— you won’t have sales or readers. To sale books you need readers. To get readers you need promoting/marketing and have it done consistently.

  1. What is the most important thing you’d tell someone else wanting to start their own marketing company?

Communicate with the Authors. Build on what they need. Use that focus to build them up. Be consistent. And always be honest with the authors.

  1. What do you hope your company brings to people?

I hope I can bring peace of mind to Authors. Helping them by taking the weight of marketing off their shoulders is huge. Helps them gain focus to do what they love to do and that’s write. Also, I hope by Marketing that I can bring new books to readers and new readers to books.

  1. Where would you like to see your company and the authors you work with in ten years?

I would love to see us succeeding but most of all just being a team and working together would please me immensely.

  1. If you could have the people reading this take away only one thing from this interview, what would it be?

That marketing is huge. It’s not something to take lightly and say, “I can do this and make it big.”

It’s not easy and it’s a lot of work but the outcome can be rewarding if we stick as a team and work together. It takes a team of people to make an author succeed. The Author can’t do it all on their own.

Well, everyone, that’s all for this time around! Find Nikki on FB and free feel to message her for rates and other fun stuff. I promise she doesn’t bite!

Thank you so much for letting me interview you, Nikki, I truly appreciate it! And as always, dear readers, thank YOU all for reading, following, and spending a little bit of your time in my imagination! I appreciate all of you!

That has been one lesson I’ve learned the hard way since I first self-published in 2015…marketing is vital, and a lot of work. And I’ve learned how important it is to consider and plan for marketing from the very beginning. This was a great post and interview, thanks for sharing this with us 🙂
